Course Content
The STEP Facilitator Programme is delivered through a series of live, online, group tutorials. Held weekly on Zoom, these tutorials allow you to enroll and learn from anywhere in the world. Both Lindsey Lovatt and Dr. Peter Lovatt jointly lead these sessions, bringing their expertise directly to your screen.
What’s in the course?
The STEP Facilitator Programme focuses on understanding the relationship between dance and movement and its impact on various psychological characteristics. This course explores four key areas:
- How does dance and movement enhance aspects of social interaction?
- How can dance and movement transform the way people think and solve problems?
- How does dance and movement influence emotional states?
- How does dance and movement affect our physical condition?
Theory and Application
The STEP Facilitator Programme centres on studying the psychology of dance and movement through key academic research and theory papers, then applying this knowledge in Business, Education, Health, Dance and Social settings.
Theory
Led by Dr Peter Lovatt, each session focuses on a specific research topic or question. Students are provided with a set of guided learning materials (e.g. papers and self-assessment tools) and the topic forms the basis of the tutor-led presentation and group discussion. This component fosters an understanding of theoretical and methodological approaches in dance and movement psychology and helps students interpret the knowledge base effectively.
Application
The Application component of each session is led by Lindsey Lovatt, who is an Occupational Therapist. In each session, we transition from theory to application, exploring how theoretical concepts and research findings can be applied in business, education, health, dance and social care settings. This includes weekly techniques/exercises, creating your own dance breaks and the development of STEP Implementation Plans.
